“In the Reflection of a Reflection” is an artistic project dealing with digital storytelling. It was done while I was in San Francisco in collaboration with the French author Olivier Hodasava who stayed in Paris.
Hodasava explores Google Street View and reports everyday on his blog about his online explorations. I have never met Hodasava in person but when I arrived in San Francisco I told him that he should come and meet me through Google Street View in a Haight-Ashbury café.
I did so and we started an experiment. Hodassava started to track and use all the content I posted on the social media to create a story. With the time difference, during almost one month, I read a story composed about my life as if I were a persona. I am currently translating the texts so we will be able to exhibit our work and give a lecture about it.
As an exemple of this experiment, here is a selected example.
The first picture is taken from my Instagram account. The second one is a screenshot from Hodasava blog.
On this post he said:
“Day 1657- Experiment. She just, this minute, posted on Facebook a picture taken inside a bar/mini-golf in the Mission District. A strange place, I have to go back there. I am still stuck far away from her and, for lack of anything better, with Street View, I teleport in the place I know she is. I try to figure out what is outside the frame of her picture.
I “photograph” what she photographs.
I feel a little bit like I am a peeping Tom. No matter how hard I… Constantly, I have the feeling she is going to appear behind my back out of the blue.”
